The special issue of Frontiers is entitled ‘Large-scale dam removal and ecosystem restoration’. It was edited by Rebecca McCaffery, Jeffrey Duda, Laura Soissons and Jean-Marc Roussel. It brings together a wide range of scientific articles from long-term research projects on the removal of large dams (>10 m). The aim is to synthesise the issues, results, tools and experimental models used to study large dam removal projects from a physical, biological, ecological and socio-economic perspective.

Of the 25 articles in this special issue, 7 deal with the consequences of dam removal on the Sélune and were written by teams involved in the Sélune scientific programme. They are :
