Program schedule

The scientific program on the Sélune began in 2012 and will continue until 2027. The scientific program has been developed in several stages, inseparable from the decommissioning work and the political and local decisions relative to the dams.

One program, three phases

The scientific program follows the restoration of the Selune valley in three phases:

2_IlusTxt_Phase1

The evaluation phase

Phase 1 - pre-decommissioning of dams (2012 - 2018)

The first phase of the programme began in 2012 and continued until dam decommissioning works began. It enabled us to understand how the river and its valley functioned with the dams.

2_IlusTxt_Phase2

The removal phase

Phase 2 - dams decommissioning (2018 - 2022)

The second phase of the programme started in 2018, following the establishment of an agreement between several partners to manage the organisation of the scientific program. It also corresponds to the start of decommissioning operations to remove the 1st dam (Vezins). This phase was the opportunity to directly observe the changes taking place during the operations to restore continuity in the Sélune.

2_IlusTxt_Phase3

La phase de restauration

Phase 3 - post-decommissioning (2022 - 2027)

This phase started as soon as the continuity of the Sélune was fully restored, when the second dam got removed at the end of 2022. It enables us to understand how the river ecosystem is being restored and how the Selune valley functions without the dams, from a biological, hydrological, geomorphological, economic and societal point of view.
