How to view the data via the web mapping portal?

Here you will find more information about the mapping portal and how it works, as well as the different steps to follow to view the available data.

The web mapping portal provides easy and quick access to data from the scientific program.

The web mapping portal is currently only available in French. An English version is under consideration.

Step 1 : Access to the web mapping portal

Access to the portal is through the URL: https://geosas.fr/selune/

The map portal is accessible under most web browsers, although Firefox, Chrome and Edge are recommended.

As soon as the map portal opens, an information pop-up window (documentation page) opens by default. It presents various tabs providing information on the information system: “Bienvenue” (explanatory text), “Programme Sélune” (some key figures), “Aide en ligne” (what to do if you get lost on the application) and “Sources et credits”. This window closes easily via the «X» button in the upper right or the «Fermer la fenêtre» button at the bottom. If you want to display it again, just click on the «?» button at the top right of the map portal.

The main portal page is a base map with:

  • A menu column on the left.
  • A "legend" column on the left (2nd column).
  • Some buttons of possible actions at the top right: zoom in, zoom out, return to the geographical extent of the start, tool for measuring lengths and areas, sharing, export.
  • A button at the bottom right of choice of the map background.

This window closes easily via the «X» button in the upper right or the «Fermer la fenêtre» button at the bottom. If you want to display it again, just click on the «i» button at the top right.

Step 2 : Change the data displayed by default (column menu)

The main map is based on a background map and dataset loaded by default.

Change the background map

It is possible to change the background map to choose among those presented: Openstreetmap, IGN map, historical maps, old or recent aerial photographs, etc. For this, simply use the button provided for this purpose at the bottom right of the map, allowing the choice of a cartographic background.

Change the data displayed by default

The two "menu" and "legend" columns located on the left of the screen allow you to modify the default display (add/remove/configure) of the data.

To remove unnecessary data (loaded by default or displayed by mistake and you do not want to view it), simply use the “X” delete cross on the various captions associated with the data to be removed.

Step 3 : Add the data you want to view

The two "menu" and "legend" columns located on the left of the screen allow you to modify the default display (add/remove/configure) of the data.

To add a data, just find it among the datasets available in the left most menu bar, then add it.
This requires :

  • Access the right section among «Observatoire Sélune», «Projets de recherche» and «Contexte». Each section can be opened or closed to reveal the different families of data.
  • Access the correct data family from the selected field. Once opened, a data family reveals a group of datasets.
  • Access the correct dataset from the selected family. Datasets appear on the map with a simple click (click on the text or button).

Step 4 : Set the displayed data

The column «legend» on the left of the screen allows you to set the displayed data.

You can play on different parameters. These actions are accessible by enlarging the legend window with the chevron "v". If necessary, you can:

  •
  • Adjust the opacity of the data layer.
  • Change the display mode of the layer (if proposed) named "Analysis" in the legend.
  • Perform a filter on a specific information of the dataset (if a filter is proposed) such as: temporality, etc.

It is also possible to change the display order of the data layers (which can be important if one of the datasets concerns surfaces unlike others concerning points) by going up or down the legend block in the order of the legends (drag and drop the pictogram in front of the data name).

Step 5 : Consult data

It is possible to consult certain data sets directly on the map portal, whether they consist of polygons or points. Most datasets are searchable by a simple click on an element of the dataset.

Step 6 : Export or share the map

Once your map is ready and allows you to view the data you want, you can export and/or share your map using the buttons to the right of the map background:

  • Share map: a window with a link and a QR code appears. Just copy the link or QR code to share it.
  • Export map: The map automatically downloads in image format (.png)
