WGEEL visit to the Sélune River

International group of eel experts visits Vezins

The international group of experts on European eels (WGEEL), meeting in Rennes this year, took advantage of a day trip on the 1st of October to visit the site of the former Vezins dam.

The WGEEL is a working group of the ICES (International Council for the Exploration of the Sea) that brings together between 40 to 50 scientific experts on European eels. They meet annually to assess European eel stocks worldwide and review the impacts and scientific advances made on this species.

During their annual meeting held in Rennes this year, this group of experts visited the Sélune River to learn about the valley restoration project and talk with the scientific team responsible for monitoring the initial results. They observed the rapid recolonisation of the watershed by European eels and other migratory species.
